Rule Four Defensive Pistol Course (Wayne Dobbs)

  • FPF Training Rally Point (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This course is designed to meet the specific needs of private citizens and/or off-duty law enforcement officers carrying concealed handguns for defense. While this is the most common context of concealed carry, current events and trends have required another look at the realities of deploying those weapons in public settings. Also, since we are using these guns in public without the benefit of Rule 4’s backstops, bystander control and easy sized targets, these new norms require performance in extremis that few organizations or training courses provide (and often teach responses in direct conflict with real world needs). In summary, Rule 4, so easily applied and often placed in our collective comfort zone at the range, looms huge in a street encounter. Cost is $425 plus $50 range fee that will be collected at the start of the class.

Equipment requirements:

Your daily concealed carry handgun: .380/9mm or larger, with preference to real world carry and shootable pistols: Glock 43X/48, Sig 365 family, S&W Shield, Glock 19, etc. – Please don’t bring a “magic range pistol”

 IWB/AIWB/OWB concealment holster, mag pouch(es), belt and concealment garments

 Three or more magazines

 500 rounds of quality ammo

 Eye and Ear Protection – electronic ear pro preferred

 Ball Cap

 Personal comfort items: sunscreen, bandaids, snacks and water or sports drinks

 At least three printer produced 8.5 X 11 color photos of the faces of loved ones

 One or two old, dark colored shirts (men’s if possible)

Americans are in love with their cars, and many of us spend hours every day in our vehicles commuting and interacting with society at 60 mph. The criminal and anti-social element is mobile as well, and consequently we may find ourselves in an encounter “in and around” our car.

Who Wins, Who Loses and Why (John Hearne Lecture, Culpeper)

Human performance under stress isn’t a new topic. What makes this presentation different is the recency of the research and the presenter’s background. Some of the works in this area are over 25 years old and don’t reflect the most recent discoveries in the field. This presentation uses the latest findings from a wide variety of fields to offer the best understanding of the topic currently available. In addition to new research, considerable time is spent debunking erroneous myths that have been circulated for years.

You could be forgiven for thinking that nobody uses revolvers anymore...but Smith & Wesson and Ruger are producing more than half a million revolvers every year. Colt has re-entered the revolver market. Even Kimber is making revolvers now. Revolvers are experiencing something of a renaissance at the moment, but unfortunately most modern buyers don't know the practical realities of living with the revolver on a day to day basis.

Practical Revolver is a coaching-intensive class designed to help you learn the keys to shooting the revolver well, loading and manipulating it reliably, and how to care for the revolver so it will operate as expected when you call on it to protect yourself, hit a target, or harvest game.

Rangemaster Master Instructors Tim Chandler and Ashton Ray have been using and learning about revolvers for most of their lives...and they'll pass along some of those lessons to you!

Applied Defensive Handgun Skills

Marksmanship and gun-handing are important foundational skills for armed self-defense. It is however, a common opinion among people with multiple exposures to lethal encounters that these skills are not the most significant predictor of successful outcomes. This class will focus on the rest of the story. Specifically, we will work to increase your abilities and effectiveness in the critical areas of mental preparation, decision making, tactics and the appropriate application of deadly force.

Tuition $550, Range Fee $50. (Class is limited to 12 students.)
